One of my objectives has been to eat less processed ingredients and be more aware of the things I am putting into my body. This is NOT a health blog. But I do use and think about healthier alternatives. And I am excited to share some of those with you.

Chicken Bouillon from the stores is one of those ingredients that I don’t like using in my cooking. It contains ingredients that I cannot pronounce. Some of those things are stuff I know I don’t want to be putting in my body.

My friend Marlou (a.k.a. an awesome health food guru in my life) created this recipe and shared it with me. I have used it many, many times in so many things that call for Chicken Bouillon.

It is totally amazing.

Just five ingredients.

None of them are weird. It contains NO Chicken. No MSG. Completely Vegan. I

t can be made in less than a minute. It stores in the pantry.

SERIOUSLY.

I told you it was amazing.

Details on a few ingredients

Okay so I said none of the ingredients are weird, but that does assume a few things.

First, I’m assuming you’ve heard of turmeric. Although it’s not found in a ton of recipes, you can get tumeric on Amazon (aff. link) or at pretty much any grocery store in the spice section. It’s only been recently that I have learned about the amazing properties of turmeric. And man, it is good stuff. Helps all kinds of amazing processes in our bodies. Again I’m no health blog so I’ll leave you to go study on your own, but it is good stuff.

Second, hopefully you know that the kind of salt you use matters. This recipe does not call for table salt– as in the iodized kind. No. This recipe calls for real salt. But again most grocery stores now days sell it or you can buy real salt on Amazon (aff. link)Chicken or Vegetable Bouillon Substitute. It’s the good kind of salt that is healthy for our bodies. Go do your research. It does make a difference.

Just as a side note, I use real salt or pink Himalayan salt (find pink Himalayan salt on Amazon, aff. linkChicken or Vegetable Bouillon Substitute) in almost ALL of the recipes that I put on this blog. If I don’t specify, use one of these kinds of salt and you should be good to go.

Okay well hopefully I have you convinced that you need this chicken or vegetable bouillon substitute in your life.

As always, I would love to hear comments back from you about it. How have YOU used it?

Later Alligator.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup real salt see note
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a blender add all the ingredients and mix together a few seconds until combined well.
  2. Store in airtight container for up to three months.
  3. To use in recipes that call for chicken or vegetable bouillon, substitute an equal amount. To use in a broth, add ½ teaspoon for 1 cup boiling water.

Recipe Notes

1. The type of salt is important. Healthy salt is always best. Real salt is a brand that will work or sometimes I use pink Himalayan salt.

2. I often use this chicken bouillon substitute when I want to add more flavor to something I am cooking. For example, I usually add about ½ to 1 teaspoon per cup of water when I am cooking rice or quinoa rather than using chicken broth. Sometimes I will use it in sauces in place of salt (with an equal ratio) in savory-type recipes where it can help deepen the flavor.

  1. These look a little dry. Can you add some like Chicken gravy over the tops when serving? To add some extra flavor and moisture?4 stars
